To get a taster of what it’s like to fly an aircraft, many people take a Flight Experience first. The purpose of your first flight in a light aircraft is to introduce you to the joy of aviation.
On the day, you will be given a pre-flight talk about how the airplane works and how you will be able to use the controls to fly it. Your flight instructor will then show you around the outside and inside of the aircraft, before starting up the airplane to taxy to the runway for departure. Once airborne, your instructor can show you the basics of how to control the aircraft. Or, if you wish to simply sit back and enjoy the views, your instructor will be delighted to show you around the beautiful landscape of the Sunny South East. After the experience, if you catch the ‘flying bug’, you can begin the structured course towards the Private Pilot Licence.
EASA Private Pilot Licence
The Private Pilot Licence, or PPL, permits you to act as the pilot in command of an aircraft for private use. Pay-as-you-fly in our modern fleet of Cessna aircraft and take your first step towards a career in commercial aviation.
Learning to fly is not as daunting a task as it may first seem. Most pilots share the opinion that their days of being a student pilot were the most rewarding and enjoyable of all their time in an aircraft. Whether you dream of becoming an airline captain or a hobby pilot, the Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is the first step along the way. It enables the Private Pilot to continue training towards a career as a commercial pilot, train as an Instructor or gain experience on complex and more powerful aircraft.

Get night rated for as little as €999!
The Night Rating is an add-on to your licence which allows you to fly during night hours. It is a requirement prior to starting the Commercial Pilot Licence course. The winter is the best time to obtain the Night Rating because of the long nights and dark evenings.
The Night Rating allows you to act as the pilot in command of an aircraft during night time.
As a holder of a PPL, you can obtain additional ratings to enhance your license. At Waterford Aero Club, we offer training for the Night Rating using both of our C172 aircraft. This rating is a requirement before starting the Commercial Pilot License course. Additionally, it is a firm favourite with newly-qualified PPLs because it is a very straightforward qualification with no requirement for a flight examination.
