Summer 2024 – Hour Building Package
Package 1: Build 50 hours of flight time for €7,000!
Includes:
- 35 hours of tach time on a PA24-140 (equivalent to 50 hours of loggable flight time)
- Up to two hours of instructor time for the club checkout

Package 2: Build 90 hours of flight time for €12,000!
Includes:
- 64 hours of tach time on a PA24-140 (equivalent to 100 hours of loggable flight time)
- Up to two hours of instructor time for the club checkout
- Guidance from a club instructor on structuring your hours building
- Six months of club membership
- Free landing fees at Waterford Airport.
What is the difference between Hobbs hours and Tach hours?
The Hobbs meter is essentially just a time based clock that is set to activate when oil pressure is registered. This means that it runs effectively from start up to shut down and is a time based measure of how long the engine was running for.
The Tach meter is based on engine revolutions and will only register “one hour” when the engine is running at “cruise power”. So in normal operations where the engine is running a much lower RPM during the taxi, power checks, descents etc., the Tach meter is only registering a percentage of the actual time that is passing.
Typically one hobbs hour is equivalent to approx. 0.7 Tach hours.
If you wanted to maximise the value of your hours building, doing cross country flights at economy cruise power (approx. 55% / 2150 rpm) would result in even more savings as the Tach meter would be registering a fraction of the actual time the aircraft is flying.
For logbook purposes, you can log from engine start to engine shutdown so for every hour that you log you would expect to be billed approximately 0.7 hours of tach time.
Terms and conditions:
- Valid EASA license, SEP rating and medical required.
- Subject to a checkout with a club instructor.
- All flying is subject to the rules document in the club’s “Flying Orders” manual.
- Hours expire if not flown before 31/12/2024 and are non transferrable.
- Landings included are full stop landings in Waterford. Touch and go charged at €2.
- Additional instructor time over two hours is at the standard club rate (€40/hr).
- Hours are transferrable to C172S models, Monday to Thursday only. One PA28 tach hour is equivalent to one C172 hobbs hour.
